Menstrual Equity Laws

According to sixty-two menstrual equity laws have been passed in the U.S. in the last eight years.1When I first heard menstrual equity I was not sure what the term was referring to. My initial thought was the ‘disadvantaged’ or ‘women of color’ were somehow not receiving the health care that all the rich white folks come to expect.

Imagine my surprise when these new laws, at least in part, had to do with providing feminine hygiene products to men, or I should say to those who identify as men, in the men’s bathroom. What on earth would they use them for? Well, they may identify as men, but biologically they are women because where would a man with a penis, put a tampon? Or is that question off the table? If I understand this correctly, it is it the female sex who is identifying as a male gender who is in need of feminine hygiene products while using the men’s bathroom. Somewhat convoluted isn’t it?

The progressive affirming thinking is, “While there has been progress on the policy front, an area that needs improvement is the language being used in many of laws and bills addressing menstrual equity. Many of them refer to menstrual products as “feminine hygiene” products…when we use the term “feminine” we push people out of the conversation. There are people who use these items who do not identify as women.”2

I understand that. Women who identify as men are still in need of those products because, biologically, they are women. I also understand that there are biological men who identify as women. It makes me wonder why there is no push for urinals in the women’s restroom. I suppose it is because toilets can serve both men and women, and if a man feels his gender is female, he would rather not use a urinal, pointing out the disparity.

Wisdom of the Progressive State

So what are we to do? The California progressive wisdom is to allow individuals to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity. Of course, that is a problem if you are a biological woman using the men’s room and it is during your menstruation cycle. So California bill 367 was signed into law on October 8th, 2021 by Governor Newsom. Among other things, it states that in public schools, at least one boys’ bathroom needs to be stocked with menstrual products. At what cost? This bill, introduced by Assemblymember Cristina Garcia, is reported to cost up to $800,000.3

And now, here in our little Tuolumne County, we are forced to play the games dictated by the state. For example, last month, my school installed sanitary napkin dispensers in the boys’ bathrooms. Well, actually, they may have only installed the dispensers in one boys’ bathroom, but you can see the idiocy of such gender-affirming laws.

In defense of the school administration, they had no choice but to abide by the state laws, but this should be a wake-up call to the direction our state and country are going and has been going for the last several years.

What is next? If a student identifies as a cat, will the state require bathroom litterboxes? If that is ridiculous, then explain the difference to me. If a girl can say she is a boy and be allowed to use the boy’s bathroom, defying all reason, logic, and biology. Why can’t the same identify as a cat, also defying all reason, logic, and biology?

California is not the only state to follow such idiotic policies championed by the progressive left. Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed the Menstrual Dignity Act, which forces taxpayers of that state to shell out hundreds of thousands for tampon dispensers to be installed in boys’ bathrooms. Tony Perkins reports, “Thanks to the Menstrual Dignity Act that just passed, local taxpayers are now on the hook for thousands of new tampon dispensers in boys’ bathrooms. This latest madness, which affects every public school and college in the state, is expected to cost up to $400 a machine.”4

Facing the Facts

Gender dysphoria is real. Some ‘feel’ they are male trapped in a female body, and others feel female trapped in a male body, but why assume the body is incorrect? Couldn’t the brain be?

There is nothing to assume at birth; every mother and father for thousands of years need only a glance to see if they have had a son or daughter, a male or female. Yet, now we are told that just looking at the anatomy to determine their sex is ‘assigning’ a child’s gender.

The progressive left in the U.S. is now behind the curve in realizing the dangers of gender-affirming health care, specifically puberty blockers and realignment surgery.

The term ‘gender-affirming health care was not even heard of 10 years ago; now we have the President of the United States, the Governor of California, and others weighing in on this issue that has suddenly taken the cultural spotlight. This condition has become and is a social contagion. If you doubt this, explain how reports and diagnoses of gender dysphoria have increased by 5000 percent in less than ten years!5 What person who can step outside the legacy media spoon feeding, self-indulgent, follow your heart, trust your feelings, montra can be comfortable with those kinds of numbers?

Common Sense on the Horizon

But sometimes, as rare as it has been over the last several years, common sense is beginning to loom over the horizon from the one place you would least expect: Europe.

Shock of all shocks, the National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom is pulling the plug on Gender reassignment surgery. Wesley Smith reports in the National Review that most children grow out of the gender confusion stage, and doctors, along with other medical professionals, should consider it a “transient phase.”6

The BBC reported the NHS is shutting down Tavistock, the only dedicated gender identity clinic for children and teens.7 Why? For those of us who still understand that only women can have babies and only women can have menstrual periods, the answer is obvious. We have two genders, two sexes and what has taken our culture by storm is, in fact, a ‘Social Contagion.’ It denies basic biology, reason, logic, and common sense.

Susan Evans, a former nurse at the Tavistock Clinic, says there were politics behind the skyrocketing diagnoses. Detection, verification, and prognosis were certainly influenced by culture. Many in the medical profession have reported if you questioned or even hinted at something other than simply affirming the gender dysphoria treatment, you were swimming upstream, if not ostracised. Evans wrote, “The treatment pathway of children with gender dysphoria [was] becoming ever more politicized, and moving away from high standards of clinical mental healthcare with good assessment and psychotherapeutic treatment.”8

Evidence shows that children who experience gender dysphoria often grow out of it, but if they take pubery blockers or have realignment surgery, they are often scarred for life! The Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine reports, “Childhood-onset gender dysphoria has been shown to have a high rate of natural resolution, with 61%-98% of children reidentifying with their biological sex during puberty.9

The whole ‘gender-affirming care’ stance is beginning to stumble in Europe, and I hope the U.S. will soon follow suit. Nevertheless, keeping in line with the progressive left, President Joe Biden is all in for that kind of treatment and supports reassignment surgery. In a White House Interview by the trans activist Dylan Mulvaney, Biden was asked about banning gender-affirming health care. Biden said, “I don’t think any state or anybody should have a right to do that, as a moral question and as a legal question, I just think it’s wrong.”10

California Governor Newsom, who will likely make a white house run in 2024, is no different.11 In September Newsom signed a bill offering legal refuge to transgender youths that can’t get treatment in their own states, making California sanctuary state for yet another progressive paragon.

In a Floria ad, Newsome says, “Freedom, it’s under attack in your state. Republican leaders, they’re banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors.

I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight. Or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom — freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate and the freedom to love,”12 It is all about freedom and phrasing it in such a way that if you disagree you are intolerant, bigoted, and hateful. Freedom to have an abortion is called reproductive health care. Freedom for your underage child to have her breasts cut off is called realignment surgery. Freedom to live in California despite being an illegal alien is called a sanctuary.

Too Little Too Late?

Pushing back against the tide that seems to be turning against such treatments are medical practitioners who Tavistock previously employed. Before the clinic was shut down, they were completely supportive of puberty blockers and realignment surgery, such as breast removal. They criticized the use of “…the words’ male’ and ‘female’ calling for them to be relaced with their Newspeak alternatives: ‘assigned (assumed) male at birth (AMAB)’ or ‘assigned (assumed) female at birth (AFAB).'”8 If the powerhouse, left-leaning news agencies can change the phrasing of the rhetoric and re-educate the masses they will win.

Another example of changing the vocabulary to suit better the progressive agenda you’ll find in the Oregon public school system. In the Oregon student tool kit for teachers, educators are told to use menstruating students instead of girls, menstrual products instead of feminine hygiene products, someone may begin to menstruate instead of girls may begin to menstruate.13

Change the language, call it progress, dismiss those who disagree, attack their character, and finally move them from the adult table to the children’s room. Our children can look forward to this if they disagree with the cultural narrative. For those of us who can see what is taking place, it is our job to warn them and others before the sanctity of truth is replaced with the sanctity of feelings.

Those who are really convinced that they have made progress in science would not demand freedom for the new views to continue side by side with the old, but the substitution of the new views for the old. – Lenin
